Extend Partition

Extend partition in Windows Server 2003 with MiniTool Partition Wizard

Even though recent year's hard drives are equipped with larger and larger capacity, applications, Windows updates, browser caches, and temporary files are occupying system partition space rapidly. Sometimes low disk space of system partition in server also causes system crash.
Windows will warn users when there is not enough disk space like the following.



Low disk space in Windows Server 2003 causes these problems:
1. Low system speed
2. No more space for applications or Windows updates
3. System crash
As server is so important, such problems should be fixed as soon as possible. Users can clean up some disk space through the following solutions.

Clean up disk space in Windows Server 2003

1. Free some disk space by deleting old temp files in Local Settings\Temp.



In Windows Server 2003, temporary files are saved to "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp". Sometimes this folder is hidden, so please change the username as "Administrator" and then check again.
2. Free up disk space with Windows Disk Cleanup.
Open "My Computer" and right click the partition need to free space, and then select "Properties" in shortcut menu. In the pop-up interface, click "Disk Cleanup" button.



Wait patiently and there will be a list of options for us to choose which kind of files are to delete. We can choose to delete files or compress old files to release space.



Free up disk space by deleting Internet temp files.



IE saves temporary files and that wastes lot of disk space. Delete these files in this interface and release some space.
Disable Hibernation.
Hibernation requires at least 512MB space. It is suggested to disable hibernation to release space.



With these ways to release space in Windows Server 2003, we can only solve the problem temporarily. Nevertheless, we can extend C: partition where system is with partition magic thus to improve system efficiency and speed.

Extend partition in Windows Server 2003 with server partition magic
1. In main interface of MiniTool Partition Wizard we can see condition of all disks and partitions in server.
2. In partition list, we choose one partition adjacent to the target one to release some space. Right click it and select "Move/Resize" in popup menu.



3. In this interface, drag the small black triangle to resize this partition. We can drag the left border rightwards to shrink it and then there will be some unallocated space in disk.



4. Right click system partition in main interface, and then select "Move/Resize" in shortcut menu.



5. In this interface, drag the right border rightward to extend system partition with the unallocated space.



6. After all settings, we can check through our steps of operation in main interface. MiniTool Partition Wizard provides users function of preview to avoid accidental operation. At last, click "Apply" button to execute all operations.
