"Best Partition Manager out there" by hockemoto
have used this program to resize, create, delete, format and even once, rebuild the MBR. This was across 4 large drives of different makes on 11 different partitions. All this was done rather quickly, without any data loss.

The Volume Requires Contiguous Disk Extents Issue

Why Can’t Extend Dynamic Volume

As you know, dynamic disk and basic disk are two different disk type. Nowadays many of you choose dynamic disk for data storage. As time goes by, the disk space is becoming smaller and smaller, so you decide to extend your dynamic volume. However, when you run Windows built-in Disk Management and use its “Extend Volume” feature to expand volume size, “the volume requires contiguous disk extents” error happens. Disk Management doesn’t allow you to increase dynamic volume size here.
Why does this error warning occur? Probably it is because of the non-contiguous disk segments which mean the disk free parts are spread rather than being a continual part. It is impossible for a disk to have such a partition which is made up of non-continuous part.

How to Solve The Volume Requires Contiguous Disk Extents Issue

When receiving such a warning, what should you do? Some of you may consider using Diskpart command to do this work. Nevertheless, the issue is still existent. In this case, you can use a professional tool to organize your disk so that it will form one large empty area as opposed to many smaller ones.
To solve “extend the volume requires contiguous disk extents” problem, there is a very reliable and professional partition and disk management software recommended to you, that is MiniTool Partition Wizard which is provided by MiniTool Solution Ltd. As an excellent partition manager, it is worth using not only on basic disks but also on dynamic disks to extend partition, resize partition, shrink partition, slit partition and so on. This tool owns five different editions, including Free Edition, Professional Edition, Server Edition, Enterprise Edition and Technician Edition, which can be used in different operating systems, just like Windows Vista/XP/7/8/8.1/10 PCs and Windows Server 2000/2003/2008/2012. If you want to know more information about these five editions, just click the comparison.

In the screenshot, there is an option “Using Enhanced Data Protecting Mode” which can protect your data safety when sudden power failure occurs. Please check it. In addition, it is recommended to backup your data before moving or resizing the volume. During the process, you can decide how much space you want to increase by inputting the specified disk space size. Then click “OK” to continue.
Step 3: At last, please click “Apply” to make the operation effective.
Just do as the above guidance shows, you can easily solve the volume requires contiguous disk extents issue and extend or resize volume quickly. With the help of MiniTool Partition Wizard, you can manage your dynamic disk well.
Note: MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition doesn’t support dynamic disk management, so if you meet such a error, please buy its Professional Edition for a try.
