"Best Partition Manager out there" by hockemoto
have used this program to resize, create, delete, format and even once, rebuild the MBR. This was across 4 large drives of different makes on 11 different partitions. All this was done rather quickly, without any data loss.

How to shrink a drive in server 2003

I just installed a fresh new copy of Windows Server 2003 64 bit to my newly bought computer yesterday. Later, I installed my motherboard drivers, monitor drivers and optical disk drivers. When it comes to disk management, I found that C drive in Disk 1 was configured to have around 300 GB for storing operating system files and application program files. However, data partition F is too small. Therefore, I would like to perform partition shrinking to release some free space. Well then, how to shrink a drive in Windows Server 2003?

Solutions to Shrinking a Server Drive

CASE 1. Diskpart Command Line
There is a command-line hard disk partitioning utility in Windows computers, so some users think of using it to manage disk and partition.
Step 1. Press “Windows” and “R” key on the keyboard, type “cmd” and click OK to run command prompt tool.
Step 2. Here, type “diskpart” and click Enter to continue.
Step 3. In the diskpart console, type “list disk” to let the tool list out all recognized disks. To shrink volume, users need to enter “list volume” command and then choose volume to execute shrink command. However, users will find that it never works, for the function to shrink partition is unavailable in this command line (users can check all available features via clicking “?” to open help resources).
Diskpart command is unable to shrink partition in Windows 2003 Server, then what to do? Why not try third party server partitioning software? Since performance of software varies, we highly recommended users adopt the highly qualified and MiniTool Partition Wizard Server Edition is one of them.
CASE 2. Use MiniTool to Extend System Partition
Before performing partition expansion, users need to firstly download and install the powerful server partition management software. Then, take the following steps:
1. Launch MiniTool Partition Wizard Server Edition to open its main interface:
2. In the main interface of the software, choose target partition and click “Move/Resize Partition” from left action panel.
3. Here, users can drag the right black triangle on partition handle leftwards or directly enter needed values into corresponding textboxes to shrink chosen partition and click “OK” button to go back to main interface of the software.
4. Returning to main interface, preview presented system partition shrinking effect. If it is exactly as expected, click “Apply” button to make final confirmation.
With the help of this powerful server partition software, the task to shrink a drive under Server 2003 system has been greatly simplified. If same or similar situation happens, hurry to experience MiniTool Partition Wizard.
