In a computer, disk management becomes a common thing. In most cases, many computer users choose Windows Disk Management to resize partition, format partition, extend partition, create a new partition and more. However, this free disk manager is not the best tool for disk management. For example, extend volume greyed out issue often happens if no unallocated space or free space immediately follows the target partition.
In addition, another common issue also often comes up: when extending a partition, there will be a failure, showing an error message “There is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation”, as shown below:
Why does this issue happen to your computer? In a word, some applications can easily make some changes to your partition after opening Disk Management, then, the partition status is different from what is really is. Well then, is there any method to fix extend volume not enough space error? Of course.
As to the solution, there are two common ways. Here take Windows Server 2016 as an example.
In many cases, this way can be used to fix this issue. Details are here:
1. In Windows Server 2016, right click on “Start” button to choose “Computer Management”.
2. Select “Disk Management”, and click “Action” to choose “Rescan Disks”.
However, this way doesn’t work well in all cases. After that, if there is not enough space on the disk error still appears, turn to the next way.
MiniTool Partition Wizard, a piece of professional partition manager, enables you to manage your disk and partition well. By means of it, many disk issues can be solved effectively, for example, low disk space warning, rebuild damaged MBR, recover lost partition and more. As to not enough space available on the disk error, its “Extend Partition” feature is suitable.
Here, for Windows Server 2016, the Server Edition of MiniTool Partition Wizard is proper. Get it and then have a try.
Step 1: Run MiniTool Partition Wizard Server Edition to the main interface. Then, click “Extend Partition” in the left panel.
Step 2: Then, get some free space from other partition or an unallocated space in the pop-out window.
Step 3: Click “Apply” to make this operation effective.
So far, two ways to fix there is not enough space on the disk issue are here. For disk or partition management, MiniTool Partition Wizard will be the best solution. With simple steps, the disk issue can be solved.
In fact, in addition to extending partition, not enough space on the disk error also often appears when extending a new partition or shrinking a volume. For more information, read this post Solved – There Is Not Enough Space Available on the Disk(s) to Complete This Operation.
