I have a Windows Server 2008 computer and one disk with the partitions below:
C: 20GB simple basic system, boot, active, primary partition
D: 50GB simple basic logical drive
E: 50GB simple basic logical drive
F: 60GB simple basic logical drive
G: 44GB unallocated space
Since Low Disk Space issue occurs in C drive, I wonder if Windows Server 2008 system partition can be increased. If it can be done, is Windows built-in Disk Management available? Or do I need to use third-party partition management software?
1. Use Disk Management tool
If users want to resize Windows Server 2008 with its built-in partition resizing utility – Disk Management tool, they need to log in Windows as an Administrator, and then enter Command Line Prompt as administrator privilege, type “diskmgmt.msc” to launch Windows 2008 Disk Management Snap-in. There are two features which enable users to resize partition in Windows Server 2008 namely Extend Volume and Shrink Volume.
Since users need to expand Windows 2008 partition, they just need to right click on the target partition which needs to be managed and select Extend Volume from pop-up window to invoke Extend Volume Wizard. Then, follow the prompts given to fulfill the operation.
However, users must realize the fact that those two features for partition resizing work limitedly. For example, Extend Volume works only when there is contiguous unallocated space right adjacent to the partition needing to be enlarged. In addition, data security during managing course can not be ensured. Actually, a piece of server partition manager can masterly solve the issue. MiniTool Partition Wizard with all-sided functions is the best choice for PC and server basic/dynamic disk management.
2. Use MiniTool to increase Windows Server 2008 system partition
After finishing the work of software downloading and installation, users can take those steps:
Step 1. Launch MiniTool Partition Wizard Server Edition to open its main interface.
Step 2. Choose the partition needing to be extended from mapping area, and click “Extend Partition” from left action panel.
Step 3. Choose an unallocated space or a partition with much unused space left to take free space from. Then, drag the sliding handle to take free space. After that, click “OK” button to go back to main interface of the server partition management software.
Step 4. Here, users can see that chosen C drive has been expanded, but it is only preview effect. Thus, users need to click “Apply” button in the upper left corner to apply the effect to computer.
It is quite easy to increase system partition for Windows Server 2008, isn’t it? If users are facing the same or similar situation, hurry to download the powerful MiniTool Partition Wizard.
